Massage can be a great way to get back in touch with your body. It brings your awareness into your body. People can sometimes get stuck in their heads, particularly if they are anxious, worried or stressed about something. It can also happen if you have a job that it is quite mentally demanding. Getting yourself back into your body is known as ‘grounding’, it involves focusing on the now; what can you see, what can you feel beneath you, what can you hear, what can you smell, and even what can you taste? Other methods of grounding can include meditation, yoga or exercise, or just becoming aware of your surroundings. Massage gives you something physical to concentrate on and can quieten down idle brain chatter and bring peace and awareness to your surroundings.
